Compost Grows in Brooklyn
All 106 condos at Pierhouse, a luxury development in New York’s Brooklyn Bridge Park, will have under-counter composting units made by Compostio. Food scraps are added to the machine, which uses oxygen, moisture and heat to speed decomposition. An internal charcoal filter quells the smell. After about two weeks, the compost is ready to nourish the plants on residents’ landscaped terraces. Pierhouse, which is scheduled to be completed later this year, was developed by Toll Brother’s City Living with Starwood Capital Group.
